امیرالمومنین (ع) در دوران پنج ساله حكومت خود با مشكلات بسیاری روبه رو بود و امام خمینی (ره) از این كه آن حضرت نتوانستند حكومت اسلامی به معنای واقعی آن را در جامعه پیاده كنند اظهار تاسف كرده و فرمودند: آن چیزي كه موجب تاسف است، این است كه نگذاشتند حضرت امیر (ع) مجال پیدا كند تا آن حكومتي كه حكومت الله است در دنیا به آن نحوي كه مي‏خواست پیاده كند تا دنیا بفهمد كه اسلام چي آورده است و چه شخصیت‏هایي دارد.

امام خمینی (ره) با بیان این كه ما باید تا ابد از این مساله متاسف باشیم، افزودند: در آن وقت كه حكومت دست ایشان نبود، كه مجال نبود و آن وقت هم كه حكومت دست ایشان آمد باز مجال ندادند و سه جنگ بزرگ در زمان ایشان‏ افروختند و مجال اینكه یك حكومتي كه دلخواه او هست برقرار كند نشد.
